Liverpool will be short a midfielder for the next two weeks.

Joe Cole injured his hamstring in the 1-0 win at Bolton this past weekend and will miss upcoming matches with Chelsea, his former club, and the Europa League’s Napoli.

A scan revealed a slight strain in Cole’s hamstring, but it is nothing serious.

"It is not a serious injury but he is likely to be out for two weeks," Dr. Peter Brukner told The Reds' offical website.

Cole has not performed at the level Liverpool anticipated, which he admits. Manager Roy Hodgson appreciates his star midfielder’s honesty.

"It's a good sign he said that because it takes a certain type of player to be able to face up and be so honest," said Hodgson.

Cole has failed to register a goal in his short stint with Liverpool, but Hodgson has full confidence in the struggling midfielder moving forward.

"He is a quality player but we haven't seen the best of him – absolutely not. There is more to come from him and he knows that,” he said.

Cole was replaced by David Ngog during the 62nd minute on Sunday and the Frenchman could start against Chelsea this weekend. However, Hodgson may choose to bolster the midfield by starting either Christian Poulsen, Milan Jovanovic or Ryan Babel.
