Former Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell is taking some familiar faces with him up to Toronto.
According to a report by ESPN.com, Farrell — who was named manager of the Blue Jays on Oct. 25 — has asked Pawtucket Red Sox manager Torey Lovullo to join him as Toronto's first-base coach.
Lovullo stepped into the PawSox managing role at the start of last season, replacing Ron Johnson who had been promoted to Boston's first-base coach position. Pawtucket went 66-78 during Lovullo's tenure as the Triple-A manager, but his management and development skills were praised by the Sox' organization, especially considering the injury bug that swept through Boston last season requiring several minor league call-ups.
The Red Sox' administration will be looking to fill several holes in the coaching staff during the offseason. In addition to Lovullo, they will also need to replace Pawtucket hitting coach, Gerald Perry, who joined the Oakland Athletics staff last month. It has also been reported that Boston bench coach DeMarlo Hale will interview for the vacant Mets managerial position.
Toronto has also hired former Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu as bench coach and former Blue Jays pitcher Pat Hentgen as bullpen coach.
