The Denver Broncos are under investigation for allegedly video-taping the San Francisco 49ers practice the day before the two teams squared off at Wembley Stadium this October.
Steve Scarnecchia, the team's director of video operations, has taken a leave of absence during the investigation and was not with the team in San Diego for their defeat last Monday at San Diego.
Both Scarnecchia and head coach Josh McDaniels were with the New England Patriots for the better part of the past decade, and Scarnecchia was even specifically named in the "Spygate" scandal by Senator Arlen Specter, according to the Denver Post.
On the day prior to the Broncos-49ers contest, each team was allotted time for a walkthrough at Wembley, but outsiders were barred from each team's practice, and the taping of the 49ers' practice by the Broncos could result in a stiff penalty.
For the Patriots 2007 infractions, Roger Goodell stripped the team of its first-round pick and fined the team $250,000 and Bill Belichick $500,000.
The Broncos ultimately lost the game to the 49ers 24-16. The team is cooperating with the league, but has yet to comment on the situation.
