Al Harris cleared waivers on Tuesday, but it didn’t take him very long to find employment.
According to the National Football Post, the former Packers cornerback signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins on Wednesday — pending a physical.
Harris has been recovering from a knee injury incurred last November and has yet to play this season, but that was not a factor in Green Bay’s releasing the former Pro Bowler, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
Miami’s pass defense has been mediocre thus far in 2010. They rank in the middle of the pack in yards allowed, but they have hawked just five interceptions — tied for second fewest in the league — and allowed a QB rating over 90.
The Dolphins secondary is very young, with recent first-round picks Vontae Davis and Jason Allen starting at cornerback. Veteran Will Allen would have started over Jason Allen and provided experience for the unit, but he is out for the season. As a result, the signing of the 35-year-old Harris makes sense.
He did, in fact, go to the Pro Bowl in his last two full seasons of action.
The Vikings, Eagles, Lions and Texans were among the other teams speculated to have interest in Harris, but provided that his knee is alright, he will be a Dolphin.
