Dontrelle Willis has been the test subject in several reclamation projects since his heyday with the Florida Marlins, and he's about to get yet another shot at redemption in the big leagues.
Willis, 28, has signed a minor-league deal with the Cincinnati Reds, a baseball source told ESPN.com.
In 2003, Willis was a rookie phenom for the world champion Marlins, and two years later, he went 22-10 and finished second in the NL Cy Young voting.
Since then, however, his career has been a winding path that's taken him from Miami, to Detroit and most recently to Arizona in June of 2010, before being released by the Diamondbacks a month later. He's bounced up and down from the minor leagues everywhere he's been, mainly because of his remarkably bad control — Willis walked 56 batters in 15 outings in 2010, for instance.
Willis, who signed a three-year, $29 million deal with the Tigers prior to the 2008 season, has suffered from an anxiety disorder in the past.
