Mike Shanahan replaced Donovan McNabb with the incomparable Rex Grossman with the game on the line against Detroit on Sunday. Now, he may be looking to bring in JaMarcus Russell to breathe down McNabb’s neck as well.

Russell, who has been out of football this season after being released by the Oakland Raiders, has been working out in Houston with former NBA head coach John Lucas, a man renowned for his ability to rehabilitate troubled athletes, according to Fox Houston. Now, the former top pick in the NFL draft will work out for the Redskins on Tuesday.

When asked about his future in the NFL recently, Russell was upbeat.

“I know for a fact,” said Russell. “I have faith in God and strong beliefs. I know for a fact. It’s going to happen.

“I can’t say when, but until it happens I am going to stay here in Houston and continue to work out each and every day no matter how long it takes.”

Russell also was recently cleared of charges stemming from alleged illegal codeine consumption.
