Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford just can't shoulder the load in his second year in the NFL.
Stafford, who was sidelined for six weeks with a Grade 2 shoulder separation he suffered in the season opener this year, could be done for the year with a Grade 3 separation which he suffered in Detroit's 23-20 overtime loss to the Jets on Sunday, according to MLive.com.
"I've got to talk some more with these doctors and kind of figure out what they're thinking," Stafford told the website. "It's kind of frustrating to be coming back and, two games later, be knocked out again. We'll take it day by day and figure out what the plan is."
Stafford appeared to have injured his shoulder in the second quarter when Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis shoved him out of bounds. Ellis was flagged for unnecessary roughness. Stafford again landed hard on his right shoulder when safety Eric Smith shoved him to the turf after the quarterback was just able to release a pass.
