There won't be a New York Nets or Brooklyn Nets in the NBA when Mikhail Prokhorov's franchise makes the short trek to Brooklyn in two years.

Instead, the current favorite to become the New Jersey Nets' new name is the "Brooklyn Ballers."

According to NBA.com's Sam Amico, "Ballers" is among the names being floated for the team, and the New York Knicks have prevented the team by going by "New York."

Bringing back the name "Brooklyn Dodgers" has been repeatedly suggested in the media, but such would likely open up another whole can of worms as far as legal rights are concerned.

Regardless, the team will surely have a better name than "Nets" — perhaps the least creative nickname in the four major professional leagues.
