Manchester United has been linked to just about every one of the world's elite goalkeepers as it searches for a successor to Edwin Van der Sar, but the most striking rumor thus far has been that of the attempt to swoop Pepe Reina from Liverpool.
While such always seemed unlikely, it is now probably not a possibility at all. Reina has informed his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon that he doesn't want to return to Spain and that the only club he would consider a move to would be Arsenal, according to The People.
Reina, though, will finish the season at Liverpool before making a decision.
This news must come as significant reason for optimism for the Gunners, given that their Achilles' heel for the past few years has been in goal.
The often-criticized Manuel Almunia has been out with injury of late at The Emirates, and Arsene Wenger has been forced to include the even more often-criticized Łukasz Fabianski.
A bidding war for Reina's services looks to be on following the season, as the Gunners have reportedly been considering a $35 million (23 million pound) offer for the keeper, and Roy Hodgson has said that he considers him a significant part of Liverpool's future.
