Bill Hall wants to parlay his 18-homer season into a starting role, and it looks like the Red Sox are going to let him test the open market.
The Boston Globe reported on Tuesday that Boston has declined Hall’s $9.25 million option for 2011, though the 30-year-old could end up back on the Red Sox' bench if he can’t get a starting job elsewhere.
In addition to 18 home runs, Hall hit .247 with 16 doubles and 46 RBIs. He played all over the diamond in 2010, appearing at least once in left field (55 games), second base (51 games), right field (nine games), center field (seven games), shortstop (six games) and third base (five games). He even pitched a scoreless inning on May 28 against Kansas City.
