Shawne Merriman may technically be a Buffalo Bill, but he'll likely never actually play for the team.

According to Adam Schefter, the Bills placed Merriman on injured reserve on Saturday after his sore Achilles tendon failed to improve.

Head coach Chan Gailey and Merriman had previously left his injury status up in the air.

"I think that would be something that I would have to address each and every week to see where he is and see what the doctors say and see what’s going to happen with that.  I don’t know that yet," said Gailey earlier this week.

"It’s coming along, but it’s still the same situation it was a few weeks ago. Just wait and see what happens," Merriman previously echoed.

The former Defensive Rookie of the Year has rarely played at full strength in the past three years. He will be a free agent after this season and is expected to favor a move to Washington or Baltimore, his hometown teams.
