The Tigers are off and running this hot stove season.

Venezuelan reporter Ignacio Serrano of El Nacional reports that the Tigers and catcher Victor Martinez have agreed on a four-year, $50 million deal, with sources confirming to both The Boston Globe and Fox Sports. Serrano reports that the Tigers outbid the Red Sox, White Sox (who offered three years and $48 million) and Orioles (who offered four years and $48 million).

The AL Central club, which finished 13 games out of first place with an 81-81 record in 2010, has already signed prized reliever Joaquin Benoit this offseason in addition to signing third baseman Brandon Inge and shortstop Jhonny Peralta.

Martinez, who turns 32 in December, hit .302 with the Sox this past summer. If the deal goes through and the Red Sox offer Martinez arbitration Tuesday, the team will receive two draft picks as compensation for the Type A free agent.
