Last year, Ray Lewis was ranting in the visiting locker room at Gillette Stadium, discussing how he put on his pants. You also had Terrell Suggs divebombing directly at Tom Brady's surgically repaired knee. Later in the year, the Ravens steamrolled the Patriots in the playoffs, taking great pleasure in doing so on the Gillette turf.
This season, the Patriots won their matchup with the Ravens, but it wasn't without a Brady-Suggs shouting match and some leftover trash talk from the Ravens' locker room.
Now, the Patriots-Ravens rivalry has taken a new turn, this time invoking the spirit of early-2000s teen comedies.
As was discovered by the Boston Herald's Ian Rapoport, Suggs referenced the blockbuster Bring It On when asked if the Patriots did the Ravens a favor by beating the Steelers.
It'll all make sense in a minute (well, maybe).
"It was bittersweet," Suggs said in a video on the Ravens' website. "I was thinking [Sunday] night like, you know, if the Patriots were a movie, they would be Bring It On. The Rancho Cucamonga, the cheerleaders. They'd be like 'Yeah, they're a good team, but their championships are fake."
While nobody should remember the plot of Bring It On, Wikipedia reminds us all that it was Rancho Carne High School that had a cheerleading squad which was accused of stealing the routines of the East Compton Clovers.
So, Suggs is saying the Patriots stole other team's signals. Much like Kirsten Dunst stole routines. In a movie. Awesome.
