Test Your Knowledge of Former Pro Athletes Running for Office For some professional athletes, sports become not only a way of life and a way to make a living, but also a springboard for bigger and better things.

Every so often, athletes give up their quest for a championship ring and instead hit the campaign trail in search for a spot in office.

Former NBA player Bill Bradley is one of the better-known ex-athletes who tried his hand at politics. All in all, a life in politics has suited Bradley nicely. In fact, the former New York Knick-turned-U.S. Senator tried a run at the White House in 2000. He failed, but it was progress for the athlete-politician.

The late Jack Kemp, the AFL MVP in 1965, also had a pretty decorated political resume. Kemp served terms as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing New York and was named Secretary of Housing under President George H.W. Bush.

On Tuesday night, former professional athletes across the country took to their election headquarters to slave over exit polls and watch television coverage as voters took to the polls.
