It's become rather crowded in Tottenham's midfield of late. Given the emergence of Tom Huddlestone and Gareth Bale, as well as the signing of Rafael Van der Vaart and health of Luka Modric, opportunities have been few and far between for Croatian international Niko Kranjcar.
The 26-year-old started his first league match of the season against Bolton this past weekend, but that level of action simply isn't enough for him, and he'll be looking elsewhere unless the situation changes.
The man who may know him best, father and manager of the Montenegro National Team Zlatko, spoke out as to why his son may be on the way out.
"If he didn't have ambition, he would stay at Tottenham and vegetate for the next three years," he said.
"He has a great deal, but one just can't match money with his ambitions."
As for his destination, Zlatko speculated that he'd either like a move nearer to Croatia in Italy's Serie A, or to Liverpool.
"Liverpool is a club which would interest him but, then again, why not Italy?" he speculated.
Still, Niko Kranjcar's first choice would be to be first choice at Spurs alongside Croatian teammates Modric and Vedran Corluka.
"I feel great at Tottenham, so if I could play regularly for my team, then my first option would be to stay at White Hart Lane," he said. "But if I don't play much, then I will have to look for other solutions. Nobody wants to be a reserve and that goes for me too."
As for how Kranjcar would fit at Anfield, he may be somewhat redundant as a player who is not a true winger, but can play either in a central midfield role or in a wide position — much like Maxi Rodriguez, Joe Cole and Raul Meireles.
Still, a player of his class would surely have something to offer.
