Bill Belichick Jokes of Pony Rides and Badminton Tournaments on Patriots’ Day Off

FOXBORO, Mass. — It sounds like Bill Belichick's coaching staff had a nice lil' Wednesday planned.

"We played golf," Belichick said with a grin. "Golf, bowling, a little badminton tournament, ate some watermelon, played cards. It was nice."

Belichick, in case the Internet's sarcasm font fell flat, was joking. After giving the players the day off Wednesday, Belichick was asked how he was spending his time, and he ran off a laundry list of the day's events, although the coaching staff must not have had enough time to hit up Home Depot and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

But of course, Belichick continued, Wednesday really was, "Totally about the Jets, other than the pony rides and canoeing."

Belichick was also asked how he thought the players would respond after having so much time off, and he echoed a sentiment that has reverberated through the walls of the locker room all week.

"If you can't get ready for this week, I don’t know when you can get ready to go," Belichick said. "If you like football, this is a good week to be playing."
