Boston’s bullpen is starting to come together.
On Tuesday, the Red Sox finalized their contract with right-handed reliever Bobby Jenks and designated infielder Brent Dlugach for assignment. Further details surrounding Jenks’ two-year deal were not disclosed, but the contract reportedly is worth $12 million.
Jenks made 55 appearances for the Chicago White Sox last season, posting a 4.44 ERA with 27 saves. The two-time American League All-Star has played all six of his professional seasons with the White Sox and is one of just four pitchers (along with Mariano Rivera, Jonathan Papelbon and Francisco Rodriguez) to record at least 25 saves in each of the last five seasons.
The 29-year-old Jenks recorded 61 strikeouts in 52 2/3 innings last year, and adding him to the bullpen with Papelbon and Daniel Bard gives the Red Sox plenty of options in late-game situations.
