Blake Wheeler scored the only goal in the shootout, regaining control after the puck slipped off his stick and stuffing it in at the right post on Boston's second attempt.
Tyler Seguin was stopped on Boston's first try, but Tim Thomas stoned Mike Santorelli, Stephen Weiss and Evgeny Dadonov to preserve the victory.
With the win, the Bruins move into first place in the Northeast Division and third in the East with 42 points. That's tied with Montreal, but the Bruins have two games in hand on the Canadiens, giving them first place in the division for now.
Boston will continue its five-game road trip Tuesday night in Tampa Bay.

Ryder passed up to Wheeler, who moved it on to Krejci in front. Krejci then scored his second of the night with a backhand move up and over Clemmensen.

The numbers don't look too good though, as Boston is just 2-9-3 when trailing after two periods this year and 4-10-3 when giving up the first goal in the game. One of those two wins when trailing after two period was the last game in Florida, so there is some hope.
Second Intermission Notes: The Bruins put together a pretty strong second period, yet still came away trailing by a goal going into the third.
Boston outshot the Panthers 14-11 in the second and has a 26-21 edge overall. Much of that is due to the work of the Wheeler-Krejci-Ryder line, which has eight shots and the Bruins' lone goal.
The Bruins also picked up their physical play. After being outhit 13-7 in the first, they had a 20-10 edge in the second. That included a nice hip check in front of the net by Johnny Boychuk on David Booth, while Milan Lucic leads all players with eight hts.
Boston also maintained its advantage on draws, winning 61 percent so far (20-13), with Marc Savard and Patrice Bergeron each 7-3.

Chara fired in a shot from the blue line and Michael Ryder had the second chance in front before Krejci finally put it home with a backhand.

That followed a shift when the Bruins were caught with rookie defensemen McQuaid and Kampfer out together and the Panthers pressuring Boston mightily.
Second Period, 4:20, Panthers 1-0: The Panthers are definitely outhitting the Bruins so far. Hordichuk landed a big hit on Seguin earlier, and Bernier just put a big bump on Boychuk.
Second Period, 2:20, Panthers 1-0: The Bruins nearly answer as Horton is set up with a crossing pass by Lucic, but Horton's bid from the left circle is denied by Clemmensen.
Second Period, 1:02, Panthers 1-0: The Panthers get that first goal, as David Booth takes advantage of a Bruins' turnover in their own zone.
Steven Kamfer coughed up the puck, which Michael Frolik tipped over to Booth, who fired in a wrist shot off the inside of the left post.
Second Period, 0:00, 0-0: The second period is under way, with both sides still looking for that all-important first goal. The Bruins are just 5-4-2 when tied after one period this year.
First Intermission Notes: The Bruins didn't create a lot of chance in that opening period, but they didn't give up a lot either in a relatively quiet first 20 minutes.
The Bruins did hold a 12-10 edge in shots, while Florida countered with a 13-7 advantage in hits. One area the Bruins did dominate was in the faceoff circle, where they won 69 percent of the draws (11-5). Patrice Bergeron led the way there, going 5-1 to go along with two hits, a shot and a takeaway.
Not too much yet from the guys taking on their old teams. Dennis Wideman had a blocked shot but no other stats in 7:10, while Nathan Horton had two shots in 5:22 and Greg Cambell had a ht and won 2 of 3 faceoffs he took in 4:53.

First Period, 7:20, 0-0: Nathan Horton has been guilty of not shooting enough at times, but fires two good bids on net in that shift, including a give and go at the blue line with Savard that led to a shot from the high slot.
First Period, 6:20, 0-0: Steve Kampfer jumps up into the attack and nearly gets a chance in front from Krejci, but Florida counters with Marty Reasoner alomst breaking in alone as things get a little more wide open here.

7:30 p.m.: The Bruins will once again open with their "energy line" of Daniel Paille, Greg Campbell and Shawn Thornton up front, Zdeno Chara and Adam McQuaid on defense and Tim Thomas in goal.
Florida counters with Steve Reinprecht, Bill Thomas and Darcy Hordichuk up front, Bryan McCabe and Dmitry Kulikov on the blue line and Scott Clemmensen in goal.
With the two fourth lines starting, will we get another heavyweight bout right off the bat? Thornton and Hordichuk have already gone once this year.
7:25 p.m.: As expected, Florida has scratched defenseman Keaton Ellerby. He's the only healthy scratch for either side.
The Panthers are also without forwards Byron Bitz (sports hernia), Rostislav Olesz (broken finger), Radek Dvorak (shoulder) and Cory Stillman (back), while the Bruins are without Marchand (undisclosed) and Stuart (broken hand).
7:15 p.m.: With Milan Lucic avoiding a suspension and Brad Marchand remaining out with an undisclosed injury, the Bruins should have the same lines in this one that they unveiled on Thursday.

6:30 p.m.: The Bruins open their five-game road trip in just about an hour as they take on the Panthers for the third time this season.
Tim Thomas is expected to get the start in goal, with Florida expected to counter with Scott Clemmensen. Brad Marchand is also expected to miss his third straight game with an undisclosed injury.
The Bruins will try to build off Thursday's impressive 4-1 win over Atlanta and get off to a strong start after needing third-period rallies to beat the Panthers in each of the first two meetings this season.
8 a.m.: While their fans in New England dig themselves out from the blizzard, the Bruins will be down in sunny Florida on Monday.
Boston opens a five-game road trip with a visit to Sunrise, Fla., to take on the Panthers. While the Bruins will be living out of suitcases for the next couple of weeks, the Panthers will play 11 of their next 13 games at home.
The B's will look to build upon Thursday's strong effort in a 4-1 win over Atlanta to close out a three-game homestand at the TD Garden. That snapped Boston out of a 1-3-1 slide, but the Bruins will be facing a Florida team that is also getting on track.
The Panthers are just 16-17-0 overall, but they've won six of their last nine games, paced by Stephen Weiss, who has 5-6-11 totals in his last nine games, and goalie Tomas Vokoun (14-13-0, 2.51 GAA, .922 save percentage, 4 shutouts).
