It’s certain that Crawford could pack a dynamic punch in the Red Sox’ lineup, but with the recent signing of left-handed first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Crawford may not be the top choice for Theo Epstein.
NESN.com’s Tony Lee asked a few MLB reporters about Crawford’s fit in Boston, and while all three agreed he would succeed at Fenway, he may not be the right player to pursue after signing a left-handed slugger in Gonzalez.
“I think they want a right-handed hitter after signing Adrian,” said the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo. “I think he [Crawford] fits a little bit less than what he would have fit had they not signed Adrian … Hard to say no to a guy like that if the price is right but I really don’t think he’ll be a Red Sox.”
