Fan Forum: Will NFL Set a Bad Example If Aaron Rodgers Plays Sunday Against Patriots? The Green Bay Packers' playoff hopes are hanging by a thread, and that thread is threatening to snap if quarterback Aaron Rodgers can't play against the Patriots this weekend in the Sunday night matchup.

Rodgers suffered his second concussion of the season on Sunday against the Lions, and if he goes up against the Patriots on Sunday, that could send a questionable message to the league, especially considering the influx of head injuries this season.

The Packers' trusty quarterback returned the week after the first concussion on Oct. 10, and hasn't missed a game since. But that streak is in jeopardy after a dangerous run against the Lions on Sunday found him concussed again. The Packers are reportedly preparing to play without their leader, but what if he decides to return? Will that set a bad example after all of the NFL's campaigning against concussions this season?

If Rodgers decides to play this Sunday, it would go against every precedent that has been set by the NFL this season. NFL concussion specialists are urging players to pay more attention to their brains — literally — and are pleased to see that more players are taking to the sidelines following big hits to the head.

However, if Rodgers is ready to play, and passes concussion tests, what should stop him from stepping on that field? The Pack's passionate fan base will want to see him taking the snaps if he's cleared to play, especially with so much on the line.

The decision to start Rodgers will be an iffy one. If they don't start him, they put Matt Flynn in the starting position against the dominant Patriots who are undefeated at home. Their playoff fate will also lie in the hands of their NFC competition, as the division-leading Bears are well on their way to clinching the crown. But if he does start, Rodgers could face a career-threatening injury if he incurs any other close hits to the head.
