HOUSTON — A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that the Houston Astros have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent Bill Hall that guarantees $3.25 million.
The person spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced.
Hall's agreement contains a mutual option for 2012 with a buyout.
The utility player spent last season with the Boston Red Sox and is likely to be Houston's starting second baseman.
He hit .247 with 18 homers and 46 RBIs last season. Hall, who turns 31 on Dec. 28, has hit .250 with 122 homers and 425 RBIs in a nine-year career mostly spent with Milwaukee.
