The Celtics' stretch of games without Kevin Garnett is now underway — and meanwhile, their stretch without Rajon Rondo still isn't over yet.

Garnett will sit out for the first time this season on Friday afternoon, missing the Celtics' New Year's Eve tilt with the New Orleans Hornets due to a strained calf muscle. Rondo, who has been out since Dec. 15 as he recovers from a sprained ankle, will miss his seventh consecutive game.

This means that Glen Davis and Nate Robinson will start together for the first time. Last summer, the duo made a name for themselves as the "Shrek and Donkey" team that took down the Lakers off the bench in Game 4 of the NBA Finals — now they'll try to join forces in the starting five.

While the C's are without their regular power forward, the Hornets will have theirs back. David West has been slowed down by a sprained ankle, but he'll try to tough it out and play through it.

Here's the lineup card for C's-Hornets:

Celtics
Nate Robinson, PG
Ray Allen, SG
Paul Pierce, SF
Glen Davis, PF
Shaquille O'Neal, C

Hornets
Chris Paul, PG
Marco Belinelli, SG
Trevor Ariza, SF
David West, PF
Emeka Okafor, C
