The "player to be named later" in the trade between the Red Sox and Padres has finally been named, with Eric Patterson getting shipped to San Diego.

The team announced the move on Thursday afternoon, while also confirming the signing of Matt Albers.

The Red Sox acquired Patterson last year after Dustin Pedroia went on the disabled list. He ended up playing in 45 games, hitting .226 with four homers and seven RBIs. He stole five bases, getting caught once, and he spent time in left field, center field and at second base.

The trade netted the Sox Adrian Gonzalez, with the Padres getting Casey Kelly, Reymond Fuentes, Anthony Rizzo and Patterson in return.
