The Red Sox need bullpen help, and it might be coming in the form of Bobby Jenks.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported via Twitter that a deal is done, with Jenks agreeing to a two-year, $12 million contract with Boston. Earlier, Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman said on Twitter that Jenks was “on the verge of a deal with the Red Sox.”

Jenks, 29, is a free agent after the White Sox did not tender him a contract this offseason. He spent all six of his major league seasons in Chicago, compiling a 14-18 record to go with 173 saves in 199 opportunities. From 2006-10, he averaged 33.4 saves per season.

While his strikeout numbers improved last year from the previous three seasons (10.4 SO/9), he posted the second-highest WHIP of his career (1.367). Heyman reported earlier Thursday that Jenks would be seeking “closer money.”

Jenks did post a career high in ERA last season with a 4.44 mark, bringing his career mark from 3.21 to 3.41.
