TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported that the B’s will receive a conditional pick in exchange for the winger.
The 32-year-old, who was traded to the B’s from the Sharks in the Joe Thornton trade in 2005, returned to practice this week. He’s been on long-term injured reason all year due to ACL and MCL injuries and is believed to be two or three weeks away from returning to game action.
Sturm has 106 goals in four-plus seasons with the B’s, with his best year coming during the 2007-08 campaign, when he scored 27 goals and assisted on 29 more for 56 points. In 855 career NHL regular-season games, the 21st overall pick in the 1996 NHL draft has 234 goals and 232 assists to go with a plus-66 rating.
He carries a cap hit of $3.5 million this season.
At the start of the Bruins-Lightning game, Sturm’s trade to the Kings still has not been officially announced by the Bruins’ organization. According to a later report by TSN, the deal is being held up by “medical issues that need to be addressed.”
