Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said that his team's foremost priority at this week's winter meetings is helping the bullpen. The next priority after that? A right-handed hitter, preferably an outfielder.
According to CSNNE's Sean McAdam, the Sox are targeting outfielder Magglio Ordonez to satisfy the latter of those needs.
McAdam cites a "baseball source" that says the Red Sox have interest in signing Ordonez to put him in left field.
The move makes sense, too, for a Red Sox team that is starting to look a little left-handed-heavy, especially with the recent addition of Adrian Gonzalez. The right-handed-hitting Ordonez, is a lifetime .300 career hitter, but he kills lefties. Just last season, in only 84 games with the Tigers, Ordonez hit .371 against southpaws.
It's still unknown what Ordonez will be seeking in a contract. The free agent is coming off of a monster contract in Detroit, but battled injury during the 2010 season.
