Wednesday was a busy day for the Boston Red Sox.

After reportedly meeting with Carl Crawford and his agent in Texas in the afternoon, general manager Theo Epstein and manager Terry Francona flew to Chicago to meet with Jayson Werth and his agent, Scott Boras, according to ESPN.com's Gordon Edes.

Crawford and Werth are the two biggest names on the market, in terms of position players, and Wednesday's meetings are a sign that the Red Sox are expected to be aggressive in their pursuit of at least one of them.

Werth, 31, hit .282 in four seasons with the Phillies, averaging 24 homers and 75 RBIs per season.
