Matt Garza may be the next player on the Tampa Bay Rays’ chopping block, as the dissection of the AL East champions continues.

On Dec. 10, Fanhouse’s Ed Price tweeted that a source told him a trade of Garza is “certain.” While the Rays have yet to move the young righty, there is plenty of interest in him.

According to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, the Nationals are hunting down starting pitching help, and Garza is on their radar. The Rays are particulary keen on shortstop Ian Desmond and pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, but Washington appears unwilling to part with them.

The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo (via MLB Trade Rumors) also recently reported that the Texas Rangers have expressed interest in Garza. That interest likely will increase after Cliff Lee decided to sign with the Phillies. Texas had been pursuing the lefty hard since the beginning of free agency.
