Roy Hodgson Sends Mixed Messages About Steven Gerrard’s Availability Against Fulham

December 14, 2010

Steven Gerrard has not stepped on the pitch for Liverpool since he injured his hamstring under controversial circumstances on Nov. 17.

His return was set for mid-December, with last Saturday's Newcastle match as a potential date. Now, it is unclear whether or not he will play this weekend against Fulham.

Roy Hodgson told on Tuesday that "Steven's on track for the weekend," adding, "Steven has been determined to get back as quickly as possible and the physios are happy with him and he feels quite good."

According to Sky Sports, however, Hodgson told a much different story on Tuesday.

"Steven Gerrard is not fit and will be touch and go for Fulham," he said.

"We have to be careful there is no risk of the injury reoccurring and I am in the hands to some extent of the sports science people as to when he can come back," he continued.

Without Gerrard, Lucas and Raul Meireles have forged an improved partnership in central midfield, though the team is just 2-2 in the Premier League in his absence.
