For Geno Auriemma and the UConn women's basketball team, Wednesday night was another step toward another national championship. That, and a little bit of college basketball history.
The Lady Huskies rolled to a 93-62 win over No. 20 Florida State in Hartford on Wednesday, giving UConn their 89th consecutive win. That streak surpasses the mark of John Wooden's UCLA men's team's mark of 88 straight games in the 1970s.
"I don't want to compare anything to anything," Auriemma told former Husky center Rebecca Lobo on the ESPN broadcast of the game. "I'm not John Wooden and this isn't UCLA. This is Connecticut and that's good enough."
Maya Moore, who has been a part of each one of UConn's 89 consecutive wins, scored a career-high 41 points, while also adding 10 rebounds in the winning effort. Tiffany Hayes has also been a part of each of those wins during the streak.
UConn will head west to take on Pacific on Dec. 28 looking to make it 90 in a row, before heading to Stanford to take on the Cardinal on Dec. 30.
