Wednesday night's matchup between the Celtics and the Nuggets is more than just a contest featuring two of the NBA's top teams, it's also a battle between two of the most-respected coaches in the league.
With a win over the Celtics, Nuggets head coach George Karl earns his 1000th career win in the league, but he'll have a tough time against Doc Rivers' Celtics. Named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month in November, Rivers has proven his coaching success in Boston.
Karl is on the verge of joining three other active coaches that have reached the 1000-win milestone in their careers. Larry Brown (Bobcats), Phil Jackson (Lakers), and Jerry Sloan (Jazz) are also amongst the six NBA coaches to reach that mark as well.
Also rising up the ranks as one of the league's top coaches is Gregg Popovich, who leads the Spurs. Popovich joined Rivers as the Western Conference Coach of the Month in November, and San Antonio currently posts the best record in the NBA with their 17-3 mark.
