Vote: Does the UConn Women's Basketball Team Own the Most Impressive Streak in Sports History? Streaking was a big deal long before Will Ferrell‘s character Frank Ricard hit the streets wearing nothing more than sneakers and socks in Old School — just ask Red Auerbach, Bobby Cox and other Hall of Fame coaches who have led their teams to impressive sports streaks.

Geno Auriemma and the UConn women’s basketball team seem to have sparked more debate than showers of praise after winning their 89th consecutive contest on Tuesday night. Such debate topics included: would Auriemma be a good men’s coach? Was this UConn streak more impressive than UCLA’s? Is women’s basketball even entertaining?

Here’s another debate topic for sports fans: which team has held the most impressive streak in the history of sports?

The New England Patriots won 21 straight games — both regular season and playoffs — from Oct. 5, 2003- Oct. 24, 2004. That streak also included a Super Bowl victory, the team’s second of three in four years.

The Atlanta Braves won the National League East title 11 straight seasons, from 1995-2005. As if that’s not impressive enough, they won three straight NL West division titles leading up to that, giving them 14 in a row overall from 1991-2005. In that 15-year span (which included the strike-shortened 1994 season), they won at least 90 regular-season games all but once and reached the 100-win plateau six times. Unfortunately, they won the World Series just once in that span, when they ousted the Cleveland Indians in six games in 1995.

Arguably the most potent dynasty in the history of sports, the Boston Celtics of the late 1950s and early ’60s won eight straight titles from 1959-1966. That’s eight straight years of Red Auerbach and the C’s hoisting a banner to the Garden rafters. After not-so-graciously allowing another team (the Philadelphia 76ers, who ousted the C’s in the Division Finals) to get a taste of the crown in 1967, Boston bagged a couple more in 1968 and 1969.

With all due respect to Trinity men’s squash, which of these teams has held the most impressive streak in the history of sports?
