Jason Bailey is taking the Anaheim Ducks to court.
According TMZ .com, the former Ducks player has filed a lawsuit against the organization, claiming that he received a "barrage of anti-Semitic, offensive and degrading verbal attacks" between 2005 and 2009. The damages Bailey seeks are unknown at this time.
Bailey, 23, was drafted by the Ducks in the third round of the 2005 draft and claims that the degrading remarks about his Jewish heritage started when he joined the Bakersfield Condors, the Ducks' former AHL affiliate.
Bailey alleges that the Condors forced the forward to travel apart from the team and limited his time on the ice because of his religious beliefs.
According to a Bakersfieldnow.com article, Condor coaches were actually suspended for incidents in 2009, Yahoo Sports reports.
After the suspensions were announced in 2009, Condors' team president Matthew Riley went on record with a statement.
"Our owner's Jewish, so obviously we took the matter or would have taken the matter very seriously, and methodically and done the right thing,” Riley told Bakersfieldnow.com at the time.
Documents filed by Bailey's attorney, Keith Fink, show that after Bailey complained to the organization, the team instructed coaches to write apology notes to Bailey and to admit to their misconduct.
The Ducks traded Bailey to the Ottawa Senators for Shawn Weller in 2009. Bailey is yet to record a point for the Ottawa affiliate Binghamton Senators this season.
