While the main goal of the Super Bowl for the teams playing is to win, it's not lost on players that playing in the big game is a memory they'll cherish for the rest of their lives. So, when the Packers announced that they would be taking their Super Bowl team photo without the players on injured reserve, you could imagine it ruffled some feathers.
Jason Wilde of 540 ESPN Milwaukee pointed out that the Packers are going to take their Super Bowl photo on Tuesday during media day. Players on injured reserve, tight end Jermichael Finley included, won't be arriving in Dallas until Thursday, and therefore will not be in the photo. The Pack has 15 players currently on injured reserve, including six starters.
"I'm a team player, but at the same time, like I was saying, we got hurt playing with the Packers," Finley said Tuesday on SportsCenter. "We got hurt going to war. … The Super Bowl is like a memory. You never forget that. I think everybody should enjoy the festivities that the Packers and the team are doing. That's all I'm saying."
The issue was initially brought up via Twitter by Finley who got things going by tweeting at Packers linebacker Nick Barnett, who is also on injured reserve, about the perceived injustice.
“We got hurt playing for the team. Its not like we got injury bs'in around," Barnett tweeted in regards to the rule.
Barnett was contacted by ESPN Milwaukee to see whether or not he had approached the organization about it.
"They wouldn't budge," he told the website.
