Kevin Garnett Has Checkered Past With Charlie Villanueva, Detroit Pistons For a team that’s currently 15-26 and unlikely to be relevant in the Eastern Conference playoff race this spring, the Detroit Pistons sure have had a profound effect on Celtics star Kevin Garnett this season.

The C’s have already faced the Pistons twice this season, winning one contest and losing the second, and they’ve been arguably the two most significant nights of this season for KG.

Game 1: The Celtics met the Pistons at the Palace at Auburn Hills on Nov. 2. The game itself was rather uneventful, with KG dropping 22 points to fuel a 109-86 blowout win for the C’s, but what happened later was a bit more memorable.

Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva alleged on his Twitter page that Garnett called him a “cancer patient” while talking trash in the heat of the moment. Villanueva, who has alopecia universalis resulting in hair loss all over his body, began a bitter public feud with Garnett that made headlines nationally.

Game 2: The C’s lost an ugly one on the road, 104-92, but that was far from the worst part. Garnett went down in the first quarter, going up for a dunk and landing hard on his right leg. The diagnosis: a strained calf muscle. KG missed three weeks.

The Celtics just got their star forward back on Monday night, for a win over the Magic.

On Wednesday night, the Celtics meet the Pistons at the TD Garden for the third of four meetings this season. No doubt, KG would love nothing more than to have a smooth, uneventful evening of basketball, regardless of the outcome.
