Despite a rather large bid presented by Chelsea for striker Fernando Torres, Liverpool is keeping its leading scorer.

"Chelsea have made a bid for Fernando which has been turned down," a club spokesman said. "The player is not for sale."

Chelsea had offered £28 million for Torres, according to ESPNsoccernet. That bid was significantly lower than the original reports of £35 million, but still represented a substantial offer.

"There was a bid table at £28 million, but Liverpool made it clear that they won't sell," a source told ESPNsoccernet. "[Manager] Kenny Dalglish is there for [at least] six months and he does not want one of his best players sold under any circumstances."

Chelsea currently sits in fourth place in the Premier League with 41 points, while Liverpool sits in seventh with 32 points.
