Liverpool's initial bid of £12.7 million for Ajax star Luis Suarez was met with derision by the Dutch outfit, with the club telling Anfield director of football strategy Damien Comolli to come back with a "respectful" offer.
Ajax has set the 24-year-old Uruguay international's value at upwards of £25 million, at least twice the Liverpool bid, and the club seems poised to move their price further away from the Liverpool offer, according to Daily Mail.
"Within two days, we want security, otherwise it takes too long. By January 29 we want to know where we stand. If Liverpool want to meet our asking price, we add every day five million euros," threatened Ajax manager Frank De Boer.
"Ajax is steadfast, we know what we want," he added. "If Luis continues [until the end of the season], we have more time to consider the right replacement."
"Luis is our top goalscorer for the last three years and also the man with by far the most assists as well. He was one of the big guys for Uruguay in helping them come third in the World Cup in the summer and he still has a contract with us for two and a half years."
Suarez, though, is so keen on the move to Anfield that he is set to ask his club to lower the asking price so that a deal can get done, according to the Telegraph. He will meet with Ajax general director Rik van den Boog in the next 48 hours in order to push the deal through.
Suarez, unlike fellow Liverpool target Charlie Adam, has yet to place an official transfer request, a move that would further put pressure on the Amsterdam club to sell. His wages at Anfield would likely be significantly higher than his current salary with Ajax, further justifying a transfer request.
