State of the Union Address Features No Criticism of Jay Cutler From President Barack Obama

Healthcare reform, budget cuts, bipartisan efforts to reform the government, gays in the military, dependence on foreign oil, unemployment — all these topics and more were on the table Tuesday night during President Barack Obama‘s State of the Union address.

But what about the more important issue, Mr. President? What’s your take on the Jay Cutler fiasco?

That is, of course, in jest, but the well-known Bears fan was probably unaware of Caleb Hanie‘s existence before Sunday. But because the leader of the free world had more important things on his mind, let’s take a snippet of his speech (transcript comes courtesy of NPR) and insert Cutler references where they seem appropriate.

“That world has changed. And for many, like Jay Cutler, the change has been painful,” Obama didn’t say but totally would’ve said.

“I’ve seen it in the shuttered windows of once-booming factories, and the vacant storefronts on once-busy Main Streets. I’ve heard it in the frustrations of Americans who’ve seen their quarterback disappear — a proud man who feels like the rules have been changed in the middle of the game.

“Cutler‘s right. The rules have changed,” Obama went on to not say. “So, yes, the world has changed. The competition for quarterback jobs is real, but this shouldn’t discourage us — it should challenge us. Remember — for all the hits Cutler‘s taken these last few years, for all the naysayers predicting his decline, Cutler still has the eighth-best quarterback rating among playoff quarterbacks!”
