Carson Palmer and the Cincinnati Bengals weren’t exactly a match made in heaven in 2010, with the team finishing 4-12 and the 31-year-old throwing 20 interceptions.
Now, the 2003 first-overall pick wants out of Cincinnati after eight years. According to ESPN.com, Palmer will ask the Bengals to trade him, and will threaten to retire if that wish is not granted.
Palmer is under contract until 2014, but sources close to him say that he is financially secure and could legitimately call it quits.
Palmer’s quarterback rating has decreased in each full season he has played since 2005, and this year’s 82.4 rating is rather kind to the former USC star — as much of his productivity came in garbage time.
In terms of potential landing spots for Palmer, his former college coach, Pete Carroll, currently works in Seattle, and the quarterback situation there is somewhat up in the air. Palmer may also fit in Arizona, San Francisco, Washington, Miami or really anywhere looking for somebody new — or a mentor for other young quarterbacks.
Palmer led the Bengals to the playoffs in 2005-06 and 2009-10, the only two times the team achieved such in the past two decades.
