The Red Sox continue to make moves. According to Fox Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi, the team has signed veteran infielder/outfielder Hector Luna to a minor league contract.
Luna, who turns 31 in February, would add depth at several positions. He has appeared everywhere but catcher and pitcher in a six-year career, making the bulk of his appearances (103) at second base. Such flexibility and depth is crucial for a team whose major league roster was ravaged by injuries last season.
Originally signed as a free agent by the Cleveland Indians, Luna is a career .265 hitter with 13 home runs and 86 RBIs in 311 games. His best season came in 2006, when he batted .286 with six homers, 21 doubles and 38 RBIs for St. Louis and Cleveland.
Last season, the Dominican Republic native hit .138 in 27 games for Florida, and .294 with 16 home runs for the Marlins’ Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans.
