Report: Liverpool Contact Manchester City About Emmanuel Adebayor, Likely for Loan Deal

Emmanuel Adebayor found the back of the net 24 times in 36 league appearances for Arsenal in 2007-08. It’s been a bumpy road for the hulking Togolese striker since, but he may soon find himself with a new opportunity to prove himself with Liverpool.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have contacted Manchester City about a potential move for the 26-year-old, as Adebayor has been knocked down the striking pecking order by the likes of Mario Balotelli and the newly-acquired Edin Dzeko. He has only started two league matches for the Citizens thus far this season, though his talents are undeniable.

Adebayor has often been the subject of controversy over attitude and conduct in years past, leading to his exit at Arsenal and unsettling him at Eastlands. He and teammate Kolo Toure had to be separated at practice recently, after the two former Arsenal players engaged in a fight.

Still, at 6-foot-3 and pace and physicality abound, he would seem an ideal fit as a striking partner for Fernando Torres.

Because of his high wages and recent 25 million pound transfer fee ($38 million), City is not expected to be willing to agree to his permanent transfer at a discounted rate, but a loan deal has been much discussed of late.

Real Madrid and Tottenham are among the other clubs that have been linked to the Togolese talisman.
