7 p.m. ET: It’s officially February in England, and the transfer window has come and gone with Liverpool making the headlines.
An unhappy, under-performing Fernando Torres has left the club for a record £50 million for Chelsea, and a pair of highly talented young forwards — one a brutish target man who is perhaps already the Premier League’s biggest aerial threat, and another who scored more goals than anybody in Europe in 2009-10 — are on the way in. Throw in the Ryan Babel sale, and Liverpool spent just about nothing this window, and changed the side for the better. As for Charlie Adam, he would have been a great buy for Liverpool, but Blackpool simply wanted more than was reasonable for their captain.
Regardless, the January moves by FSG show a great deal of ambition — and a lot of faith in Kenny Dalglish.
The squad will be back in action on Wednesday against Stoke, with Suarez making his debut in Dalglish’s No. 7 shirt.

According to Opta, in the Premier League this season, Carroll has more goals than Torres (11 to nine), more assists (three to two) and the time lapse between goals is less (148 mins per goal compared to 211 mins per goal). The Newcastle striker’s shooting accuracy is worse than Torres however, with 43% of his shots hitting the target compared to the Spaniard’s 52%.

Suarez seems like a sure thing, and Carroll has all the upside in the world — a potential Rooney, but the short track record and other issues speak for themselves.
