For most players, it means a few days off to get home and relax. For others, it means bringing your game to a showcase of the best the sport has to offer for the season. And for fans, it means seeing the best and brightest stars showing why they're the best on the planet at what they do.
Each All-Star Game — the NBA and NHL contests — have their own allure.
The NBA All-Star Game usually features high-flying dunks and no-look passes for the first three quarters or so. But then, when things really matter in the fourth quarter, the NBA showcase of stars turns into the best pickup game of the year. The game's best players, usually established veteran stars, take the court for the end of the game and always put on a show.
There's also the NHL All-Star Game, interesting in its own right. The NHL game can often show the lighter side of players, as signature moments (like Owen Nolan's called shot past Dominik Hasek in the 1997 game) often take over the event. Like the NBA, though, the end of the game can provide memorable moments as well. Look no further than the TD Garden (when it was the FleetCenter) for Ray Bourque's memorable game-winner in the '96 event.
