Breaking news — Bill Belichick said “foot” three times in his news conference Friday … technically.

Now that we’re all in the business of counting words that Patriots use in their media meetings, the head coach did in fact say “foot” three times, but only when it immediately preceded “ball.” As in, you know, “football.”

That is, after all, what Belichick’s job is about, and it is all he cared to discuss when asked about Wes Welker‘s now-infamous news conference.

“Right now, my comments are just about the Jets, and that’s what we’re focused on,” Belichick said, after being asked if he gave Welker any creativity points for his work with the English language on Thursday. “You would have to ask them about that.”
