Adrian Gonzalez has been waiting for the doctor's clearance, itching to swing a bat for the first time since his shoulder surgery on Oct. 20.

The Red Sox' first baseman said he's been feeling ready for the bat for a while now, but didn't want to push his limits or set himself back for the season ahead. After taking his first 20 swings of spring training, Gonzalez told reporters that he felt no discomfort whatsoever.

"We'll see how it feels tomorrow," Gonzalez said. "I think you have to play it day by day and see how I wake up and go from there."

Red Sox manager Terry Francona also discussed Gonzalez's progress on Monday, and said that the slugger will continue to hit off the tee for the next three days.
