When NESN insider Peter Gammons checked in with the San Diego Padres' spring training grounds, officials reported there were five fans in the stands cheering on their team in Arizona.
Things are a bit different for the Red Sox, as the club has quite the following down in Fort Myers, and Adrian Gonzalez is enjoying the change of pace.
"It's definitely different, it's exciting," Gonzalez said. "It gives you energy, it gives you adrenaline."
Gonzalez still has a few weeks before he will be cleared to play, but his rehabilitation from offseason surgery looks to be ahead of schedule. The first baseman will likely be cleared to swing a bat within the next few weeks, which is one of the final activities for which he is waiting to be cleared.
While he's looking forward to playing down in Fort Myers, Gonzalez said he's especially excited to play in his first game at Fenway Park. The slugger said he's never actually played a game in the park, and he's anxious to get his first crack at the Green Monster.
