Newly acquired Liverpool forward Luis Suarez took advantage of this week’s light schedule at Anfield to return to Amsterdam to give a goodbye to his former club.
Following Ajax’s 1-0 win over VVV-Venlo, Suarez was given a lap of honor. He was additionally treated to something perhaps even more special, as the Ajax supporters serenaded Suarez with a rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
“You came to us as a young man with long hair, but you grew with us. You became a top scorer, captain, and father,” said Ajax trainer Danny Blind at the official ceremony.
“It’s time for a new step, although we regret to see you go,” he added. “We would have loved to keep you with us for longer.”
