FORT MYERS, Fla. — The day before they hit the field for their first games since last October, the Red Sox announced a series of front office promotions, including a few in the scouting/player development realm.
Allard Baird, who has served as the assistant to the general manager since 2006, will now hold the position of vice president of player personnel and professional scouting. He will continue to be "a key voice on all player personnel decisions" under GM Theo Epstein. Prior to joining the Red Sox, Baird spent 18 years with Kansas City, six of which he served as general manager.
Mike Hazen, the director of player development for the past five seasons, is now the vice president of player development and amateur scouting. The Abington, Mass., native also spent five years in the Cleveland Indians organization in various scouting and player development roles.
Craig Shipley is now the senior vice president of player personnel and international scouting. A native of Australia who played 11 seasons as an infielder in the major leagues, Shipley has been with the Red Sox since 2002. He served as the senior vice president of international scouting last season.
Brian O'Halloran, who has been the organization's director of baseball operations since 2006, is now the vice president of that department. He has been with the club since 2002 when he started as an operations assistant.
Also receiving a promotion was Troup Parkinson, who was named senior vice president of corporate partnerships; Mary Sprong, the new senior vice president of human resources and administrations; and Mark Solitro, who will now serve as the vice president/controller.
