With the spinal cord injury suffered Sunday by backup swingman Marquis Daniels, the Celtics are once again down a body and looking to replenish their depth chart. Luckily, they’ve got a backup guard in their system ready to step in.
After a three-week absence from the big club, rookie guard Avery Bradley will return to the Celtics from the team’s D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard will look to give the C’s quality minutes off the bench in Daniels’ absence.
Bradley played nine games for the Red Claws between Jan. 14 and Feb. 5, starting six of them. He averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 3.0 steals in 33.6 minutes of play.
At the NBA level, Bradley has played in only 14 games in his rookie season, averaging 1.1 points and 4.7 minutes per contest.
The Celtics selected Bradley this summer with the No. 19 overall pick in the draft. He was expected to be an impact player earlier this season, but a slow recovery from offseason ankle surgery hindered his growth at the pro level.
