Many fans in Bruins' country had Feb. 3 circled on their game schedules, hoping that a rematch with the Stars — a team with which the B's have a battered history — would ignite a spark, much like their matchup in November of 2008 did.
After the Bruins defeated the Stars in late 2008, a game that resulted in a line brawl in the second period, the team went off on a vicious tear, winning 24 of their next 27 games.
The heart and grittiness shown in Thursday's win over the Stars, after three fights broke out in the first four seconds, is a sign that the Bruins are primed to kick off another successful win streak, piling on the three-game stretch they are currently riding.
The Stars-Bruins fight fest proved that everyone on the team has bought into the program — standing up for teammates, dropping the gloves to get things going early, and connecting on the offensive end to back up the team's incredible goaltending tandem.
The Bruins, though, do have a tough stretch ahead. One that includes matchups with the Sharks, Canadiens and Red Wings, but if the spark from the recent matchup with the Stars ignites like it did after the 2008 brawl, they should have no problem running away with a streak.
